Lucy Dawes
FOREST SCHOOL ASSISTANT
After studying Physical Geography at university, I developed a fascination with freshwater ecosystems, which inspired me to complete an MSc in Water and Environmental Management. After graduating, I worked as a catchment scientist and freshwater ecologist in the environmental division of an infrastructure consultancy.
During this time, my work largely involved monitoring and protecting riverine environments. While the role included a degree of practical fieldwork, I realised I wanted to spend more time immersed in nature, which had originally inspired me to pursue an environmental career. I also wanted to find a more meaningful way to share my passion for the natural world and inspire others to connect with it.
This led me to transition into environmental education, where I can combine my scientific background with my love of outdoor learning. I am currently working towards my Level 3 Forest School Leadership qualification and have enjoyed developing my skills in supporting children to learn through exploration, play, and hands-on experiences outdoors.
In my spare time, I love being outdoors, whether that’s going on nature walks, pond dipping, or getting creative through eco arts and crafts. I am delighted to be part of the Wildwood team and look forward to helping young people develop a sense of curiosity, stewardship, and belonging in the natural world.
